Yangmei's Gaoqing Road bottleneck opened after a 20-year wait
A long-blocked stretch of road in Taoyuan's Yangmei district finally opened, good news for factory workers and companies stuck in daily traffic jams.
- A short missing link between Gaoqing Road and Gaoshi Road opened to traffic, connecting two roads that locals had wanted joined for over 20 years.
- The hold-up was land: the city could not buy the strip it needed until years of negotiation cleared the way.
- The new section is short — about 70 meters, two lanes — but it removes a chokepoint near the Youshi highway interchange.
- Two companies, Kinsus and Walsin Lihwa, each chipped in part of the cost, because the industrial zone there was never government-built and firms have to fund their own roads and drains.
Outlook: Rush-hour jams around the Youshi industrial park should ease now that traffic has a second way through.
