Two crashes involving vehicles striking parked cars occurred in Taichung City within two days, and both drivers tested positive in rapid saliva drug screening. They have been referred for prosecution in accordance with the law — bad news for road users and vehicle owners.

• On the afternoon of the 24th, on the Fengti Road section in Wufeng District, a 41-year-old man surnamed Yen drove into four passenger cars parked at the roadside for reasons that remain unclear.
• Police found his speech and behaviour to be abnormal, and a rapid saliva drug screening came back positive. He was transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of offences against public safety.
• In the early hours of the 26th, on Fuxing Road in Xitun District, a man surnamed Chan lost control of his car and struck four motorcycles parked at the roadside. Fortunately, no one was injured.
• Chan passed the breathalyser test, but his preliminary drug screening likewise came back positive, and he was also referred for prosecution on suspicion of offences against public safety.

Outlook: Both cases will be investigated by the Taichung District Prosecutors Office, and police are expected to step up roadside checks and drug-driving screening.
