Taiwan raises retirement bonus for decorated police officers

Aug 25, 2026

Taiwan is sharply increasing the extra retirement pay given to police officers who earned medals for outstanding service — good news for career officers, and a modest new cost for the government.

  • The top Chungshan medal now adds NT$200,000 to an officer's retirement pay, up from NT$80,000.
  • The Chungcheng medal rises from NT$70,000 to NT$175,000 — also a 2.5x jump.
  • Lower-tier medals get smaller bumps, scaled by rank, from NT$25,000 up to NT$150,000.
  • The new rates are backdated to the start of 2025, so recent retirees also benefit.

Outlook: The change is already in force and has been sent to Taiwan's legislature for review, so decorated officers retiring now can expect the higher payouts.
