A Taiwanese legislator and a shipping executive are out on bail in a bribery and fake-staffer case, a blow to the opposition KMT and to the shipping firm at the center of it.

• KMT lawmaker Chen Hsueh-sheng was released on bail and barred from leaving Taiwan by land or sea after prosecutors questioned him.
• He is accused of pressuring state oil company CPC to cancel a contract so the shipping firm Jin Xin could dodge extra transport costs.
• He is also accused of putting relatives on the payroll to pocket staff allowances and taking free labor from contractors.
• Yang Su-yuan, who really runs Jin Xin and is the father of a former Kinmen county chief, was also released on bail with the same travel ban.
• Investigators raided dozens of locations, including Chen's home and legislative office and several shipping and ship-agency companies, and questioned 27 people.

Outlook: Prosecutors are expected to keep building the case, with possible charges under Taiwan's anti-corruption law and more questioning of those involved.
