Tainan flooding relief payments announced
Heavy rain has left parts of Tainan badly flooded, and the city is now paying out relief money to hit households, shops and car owners.
- Days of heavy southwest monsoon rain flooded parts of Tainan, with the city following the same relief model used after the June 25 downpour.
- Homes flooded above 50 centimeters get NT$35,000 per household, combining city and central government money; shallower flooding gets NT$10,000.
- Registered factories and shops are covered too, with payments scaled to how deep the water got, plus extra money for ruined appliances.
- Flooded cars qualify for up to NT$15,000 and scooters up to NT$2,000, claimed at the district office where the vehicle went under.
- Residents should photograph the water line and bring ID, proof of residence and a bank book to their district office; claims close September 30.
Outlook: District offices will be busy through September as inspections speed up, and more rain would widen the damage bill.
