A mother in Taichung has been charged with harming her infant daughter's development after repeatedly smoking drugs beside her, a case that has drawn attention to how Taiwan punishes drug use around young children.

• Prosecutors say the 31-year-old woman smoked meth and etomidate vapes in a closed room while her 5-month-old daughter was next to her.
• Hair tests on the baby came back with extremely high methamphetamine levels, showing she had breathed in the smoke.
• Police raided the home twice, seizing meth, a scale, drug pipes and vape gear.
• She kept using and also sold drugs after the first raid, prosecutors say.
• Because she had finished a previous drug sentence and reoffended within six months, prosecutors are asking the court for a heavier penalty.
