Street brawl in Taipei's Xinyi District after driving dispute

Aug 26, 2026

A road-rage argument in Taipei's Xinyi District turned into a street fight on Wednesday afternoon, ending with both men taken in by police.

  • A foreign man and a Taiwanese man got out of their cars after a driving dispute, traded insults, then started fighting.
  • The fight moved from the roadside into the middle of the street and onto a crosswalk, drawing a crowd.
  • The Taiwanese man used his height to throw the other man down and pin him, while the women with each of them joined in — one shouting for help at a passing patrol car.
  • A bystander said the foreign man threw the first punch; the Taiwanese man also insisted he was hit first.

Outlook: Both sides were taken to the local police station for statements, and each may file assault charges once police sort out who started it.
