Oil spill in Zhongli causes six motorcyclists to crash
A leaking truck left a long slick of engine oil across a Taoyuan road during the Wednesday morning rush, injuring six riders on their way to work.
- A tractor-trailer hauling goods from Kaohsiung to the Zhongli industrial district sprayed engine oil onto the road after the cap on its oil filter cracked.
- Six riders — five men and one woman — hit the slick at an intersection in Zhongli and went down one after another.
- Three were taken to hospital with scrapes; the other three were treated at the scene by firefighters, who sent 11 responders and four ambulances.
- Police traced the source through security cameras and referred the 45-year-old driver to prosecutors for endangering public safety, plus a traffic fine.
Outlook: Police are urging drivers to check their engines and oil lines before setting out, and to pull over and report any leak immediately.
