Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te attended the National Filial Piety Awards ceremony in Chiayi, declaring that the state must share the responsibility of caring for elderly relatives with families — welcome news for caregivers.

• Lai Ching-te set out three new meanings of filial piety: timeliness, dignity and companionship.
• Taiwan now has more than 15,000 long-term care service sites and over 100,000 long-term care workers.
• With Long-Term Care 3.0 now in effect, the government aims to link home care, rehabilitation, dementia care, community services and respite care more seamlessly.
