Heavy rain has triggered a second landslide in as many days on the Alishan Highway in Chiayi County, cutting off traffic on a key mountain route and leaving drivers facing more falling rocks.

• A slope above the highway collapsed late this morning, dumping soil and huge boulders across both lanes and blocking traffic in both directions.
• No one was hurt, and crews reopened one lane by mid-afternoon and both lanes by 3:30 p.m.
• The same road was blocked yesterday by another slope collapse less than a kilometre away.
• Days of rain from a low-pressure band and southwest winds have left the mountain soil completely saturated.
