Days of heavy rain have filled southern Taiwan's main reservoirs past capacity, good news for water supply in Chiayi and Tainan but a sign flood control is now the bigger worry.

• Zengwen Reservoir is holding more water than its official capacity and began releasing water into the river channel to bring levels down.
• Renyitan Reservoir also topped out and started its own release for dam safety.
• A low-pressure band and southwest winds keep feeding rain into the catchment areas, so water is still coming in faster than it can be let out.
• Chiayi's supply is comfortable enough that intake from the Bazhang River weir was paused and support from Hushan and Wushantou reservoirs was stopped.

Outlook: Releases will likely continue while the rain lasts, with attention shifting from drought worries to downstream flood risk.
