Yunlin County has started restoring its old police headquarters in Douliu, turning a 1950s office building into a public history museum — good news for the town's heritage and tourism plans.

• The county is paying for the work itself, spending about NT$46.5 million.
• The building went up in 1950 and shows the government-office style used right after World War II, with brick walls and wooden frames.
• It was left empty after the Douliu police precinct moved into a new building in June.
• Work covers the entrance, outer walls, wooden doors and windows, plus the roof and structure, so the place is both safe and true to its original look.
• When it reopens as the Yunlin County History Museum it will have exhibition space, a meeting room, and an outdoor rest area.

Outlook: Construction is due to finish in February 2028, with permanent and special exhibitions being planned next year.
