Yageo shares slide as local funds keep selling
Taiwan's Yageo has dropped sharply over eight days as local investment funds dump the stock, bad news for its 580,000 shareholders.
- Yageo has fallen nearly 18% in eight days, from a recent high near NT$662 down to NT$544.
- The main pressure comes from local investment trust funds, which have sold the stock seven sessions in a row and stepped up selling Tuesday.
- Foreign investors stepped in to buy, which stopped the fall from getting worse — the stock ended down just over 1% on the day.
- The wider Taiwan market swung hard: it was down more than 550 points at one point as tech stocks sank, then closed up 407 points as chipmakers and financials rebounded.
- Yageo was among the funds' biggest sales, alongside shipping, memory chip and chip packaging names.
Outlook: Yageo likely stays weak until local funds stop selling, even with the broader Taiwan market recovering.
