Aug 25, 2026

Days of torrential rain in Kaohsiung have caused severe flooding and losses in agriculture and fisheries, with disaster relief taking priority and political engagements giving way.

  • The KMT's mobile Central Standing Committee meeting, originally scheduled to be held in Kaohsiung on the 26th, has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
  • Kaohsiung has seen torrential rain day after day since last week, with flooding in many areas from the 22nd onward; as of the 25th, five administrative districts still had work and classes suspended.
  • Farmland and fish ponds have been inundated, and losses to crops and aquaculture products are steadily coming to light.
  • The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that Kaohsiung will be included in the scope of cash relief for natural agricultural disasters, applicable to all categories of agricultural products, along with low-interest loans.
  • Municipal party chapter chair Ko Chih-en has spent successive days visiting Renwu, Qiaotou, Zihguan, Daliao, Linyuan and other areas to survey the damage and to press the central government for resources.

Outlook: The rain and the resulting damage have not yet fully subsided, and the short-term focus will be on post-disaster recovery and the disbursement of relief funds.
