Taiwan's Defence Ministry says none of its work phones carry Chinese apps, a small but pointed sign of how deep the distrust of Beijing now runs inside the island's security forces.

• A full sweep of the military's roughly 2,900 official phones found no China-made apps installed.
• Amap, TikTok, WeChat, Weibo, QQ, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu and Baidu cloud storage are all banned outright on work phones.
• Taiwan's digital ministry formally labelled the Chinese mapping app a national security risk in April, triggering the crackdown.
• Soldiers are also being pushed to strip the same apps from their personal phones, and barred from posting about bases, drills or troop locations.
• Commanders face spot checks, and leaks of defence secrets will be prosecuted, with unit leaders held responsible.

Outlook: Expect tighter and more frequent phone audits as Taiwan treats everyday Chinese software as a live intelligence threat.
