Taitung County is adding a second deputy magistrate under a revised local government rule, a routine but notable reshuffle for county administration.

• Civil affairs chief Lin Hung-yi will become the county's second deputy magistrate, starting September 1.
• The change follows a rewrite of the county's organization rules to allow two deputies under Taiwan's local government law.
• Magistrate Rao Ching-ling picked Lin for his grasp of local affairs and his ability to work across departments.
• Lin will serve alongside existing deputy Wang Chih-hui, acting as a link between the central government, the county council, township offices, and local groups.
• Deputy civil affairs director Ou Fei-chun moves up to fill Lin's old post.

Outlook: The new two-deputy setup takes effect in September and should spread the workload of pushing county policies through.
