Pingtung County suspends work and classes in 7 districts after heavy rain
Heavy rain has cut off roads in southern Taiwan, and Pingtung County is shutting down work and school in several townships tomorrow — a safety call that will disrupt daily life but is meant to prevent injuries.
- All of Chunri Township plus six villages in Sandimen, Nanzhou, Jiadong and Donggang will halt work and classes Wednesday.
- A low-pressure system and southwest winds have dumped days of rain on the region.
- Mountain soil is loose and unstable, raising the risk of landslides and rockfalls.
- Coastal areas are still flooded, with water that has not drained away blocking roads.
Outlook: More closures are likely if the rain keeps falling and flooded roads stay impassable.
