  • The quake struck at sea east of Taitung County on Tuesday afternoon, at a shallow depth.
  • Shaking was strongest in Taitung, hitting level 4 on Taiwan's 7-step scale.
  • Lighter shaking reached Hualien, Chiayi, Yunlin and Tainan.
  • No damage or injuries have been reported, and the shaking stayed below the level that typically causes destruction.

Outlook: Aftershocks are possible, but the quake looks likely to pass without lasting harm.
