KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan campaigned in Shiding with a focus on ecological conservation and local tourism, a positive signal for Shiding's tea farmers and local development.

• On the evening of the 25th, Li Si-chuan attended a community banquet at Hu'an Temple in Shiding's Yong'an Village, shaking hands and chatting with residents table by table.
• He thanked the local village chief and the temple for their long-standing work to conserve the yellow-margined box turtle and the yellow pond turtle, pledging to continue protecting the ecosystem if elected.
• Shiding is a habitat for these two critically endangered turtle species, but extreme weather, human development and illegal poaching are threatening their survival.
• He also pledged to promote local tea and agricultural specialty products, develop green tourism, and push forward the Shenkeng light rail project while studying an extension to Shiding.
• Officers of the local village chiefs' association joined in chanting "dongsuan" (get elected), signalling the consolidation of local factions behind him.

Outlook: With the New Taipei mayoral race entering its grassroots mobilisation phase, transport infrastructure and local industry will remain Li Si-chuan's central campaign themes.
