Torrential rain in Kaohsiung has damaged mountain-area tourist sites. The main access route has reopened, but Guanyin Mountain remains off-limits — bad news for visitors planning a trip up the mountain in the near future.

• Tianliao Moon World saw flooding and a landslide of earth and rock on a slope, with some trails and scenic facilities damaged.
• The Tourism Bureau deployed nearly 30 personnel along with excavators and pumping equipment for emergency repairs; the main access route was cleared yesterday evening and reopened.
• Guanyin Mountain has been cordoned off to visitors because soil moisture levels are too high and further landslides are feared.
• Shoushan Zoo, the Jinshih Lake Butterfly Garden and the Cijin Shell Museum have returned to normal opening hours today.
• Cijin Beach, the Gangshan Skywalk and other sites with construction work under way were inspected in advance, and this round of rain caused no major damage.

Outlook: Soil moisture in the mountain areas remains high, and the risk of falling rocks and slope failure will not disappear in the short term. Check scenic-area announcements before setting out.
