Landslide closes Hsinchu's Zhu-60 road nightly through Aug 30
Heavy rain has triggered a landslide on the mountain road into Hsinchu County's Jianshi Township, and the road will now shut every night through Aug 30 — bad news for residents and travelers heading to the back-mountain villages.
- Falling rocks hit a passing car on the Zhu-60 road; no one inside was seriously hurt.
- The road closes daily from 6pm to 7am until Aug 30, with extra daytime closures whenever rain or rockfall gets bad.
- Days of heavy rain from a southwest air flow have soaked the slope above, so rocks keep coming loose.
- Zhu-60 is the only road to Xiuluan, Smangus, Taigang, Xinguang and Cinsbu, cutting off those communities at night.
- Anyone with an emergency during the closure has to call the local police station to be escorted through.
Outlook: Expect the closures to stay in place, and possibly stretch longer, if the rain keeps up.
