Taiwan has officially launched Long-Term Care 3.0, with the government expanding services for the care of older people — good news for families with elderly relatives who need care.

• Long-Term Care 3.0 is now in effect, with more complete linkage across home care, dementia care, community services and respite care.
• Taiwan now has more than 15,000 long-term care service sites and 100,000 care workers assisting families in caring for older people and people with disabilities.
• A new smart assistive device rental scheme has been introduced, allowing older people to switch devices as their physical condition changes rather than paying a large sum upfront.
• Chiayi County, which has a high proportion of elderly residents, has pushed coverage above 80% through sites such as senior canteens and neighbourhood long-term care stations.

Outlook: The number of long-term care service sites and care workers is expected to keep rising, with the focus on further easing the burden on caregivers.
