Taiwan's main opposition party has moved against two of its own young critics, a sign of deepening infighting inside the KMT ahead of November elections.

• The KMT's discipline committee suspended former youth department head Hsiao Ching-yen for three years and expelled legislative nominee Ting Yu.
• Both had repeatedly criticized the party leadership and taken positions clashing with official KMT policy.
• Ting Yu hit back hard, saying a "fake KMT" had insulted the "100% anti-communist real KMT" and that a Taiwan branch of the Chinese Communist Party had just been born.
• He urged voters to turn out on November 28 and use the ballot box against what he called communist influence.
• The case goes to the party's Central Standing Committee for discussion.

Outlook: The expulsions are likely to widen the split between the KMT's leadership and its younger anti-Beijing wing just as the November local elections approach.
