Huxi Township office rejects claims over library site change and Hongluo landfill
A local election fight in Penghu has turned into a public dispute over a library project and a burning garbage dump, with the township office pushing back hard against a candidate's accusations.
- Independent county magistrate candidate Yeh Chu-lin claimed a library site change wasted NT$20 million in planning money.
- The Huxi Township office says the real cost of the cancelled design work was about NT$1.1 million, not NT$20 million.
- The site was moved from Aimen to Dingwan because of airport noise and running costs, with Ministry of Education approval.
- Yeh also blamed the office for 18 fires in three years at the Hongluo landfill, which the office says is run by the county environmental agency, not the township.
- The office says one of those fires damaged its own recycling facility, making it a victim rather than the party at fault.
Outlook: Expect the library site and the landfill fires to stay campaign talking points as Penghu's magistrate race heats up.
