As the Taoyuan mayoral race heats up, Democratic Progressive Party candidate Huang Shih-chieh has accused incumbent mayor Chang San-cheng of claiming plans drawn up by the previous administration as his own record — a negative development for Chang.

• Huang canvassed for votes at Yangmei's Puxin Market on the 25th, with residents along the route presenting him with persimmons, radishes, garlic shoots and other good-luck items and wishing him victory.

• A day earlier, Chang had said he hoped the Youth Industrial Park Phase 2 expansion would attract TSMC's upstream and downstream suppliers. Huang countered that the project was launched back in 2020, during Cheng Wen-tsan's term.

• Huang said Chang was repackaging a plan others had spent years advancing as a new achievement, in order to respond to the controversy over TSMC.

• He also criticised the long-standing neglect of Puxin Market, where vendors are crammed along the roadside, there is no parking, and the old market building sits idle. The city government, he said, cannot use the "private land" argument to shirk its responsibility.

• Huang pledged that, if elected, he would take the initiative to negotiate with landowners and revitalise the market site through public-private cooperation, incorporating social welfare and other public facilities.

Outlook: TSMC's plant investments and local infrastructure are set to become the main points of contention in the Taoyuan mayoral race, and the dispute over who deserves credit for past achievements is expected to continue.
