Fire destroys main hall at Taipei's Zhinan Temple
A fire gutted the Lingxiao Hall at Zhinan Temple in Taipei's Wenshan District, with no injuries but heavy damage to a landmark religious site.
- The blaze broke out Sunday evening and burned the hall completely before firefighters put it out just after midnight.
- More than 40 fire trucks and a hundred firefighters and volunteers were sent in; nobody was trapped inside.
- Deputy Mayor Chang Wen-te went to the scene overnight, and Mayor Chiang Wan-an is visiting Monday morning.
- The cause and the full extent of the damage are still unknown, with the site too hot to investigate until it cools.
Outlook: Investigators will start examining the burnt hall once temperatures drop, while the city works with temple management on rebuilding plans.
