A major fire gutted the Lingxiao Hall at Taipei's Zhinan Temple, destroying the historic landmark but leaving no one hurt.

  • The blaze broke out Monday evening in the Wenshan district and quickly engulfed the entire hall.
  • Firefighters sent 43 trucks and about a hundred personnel; the fire was under control by late evening and fully out just after midnight.
  • No injuries or trapped people were reported, though the building was largely destroyed.
  • Deputy Mayor Chang Wen-te visited overnight and said crews were still cooling the site before investigators could enter.

Outlook: Mayor Chiang Wan-an visits Tuesday morning as officials work out the cause, the extent of the damage, and a rebuilding plan with temple leaders.
