Talk inside Trump's orbit is turning to Eric Trump as the family's most likely political heir, a sign the Trump brand is being positioned to outlast Donald Trump himself.

• Eric Trump is seen as the strongest candidate in the family to run for office, ahead of Don Jr.
• His stable marriage and his wife Lara's public profile are treated as political assets.
• Legal or political attacks on the Trump family are expected to boost him rather than hurt him.
• The idea assumes voters would reward a family under pressure with another term in the White House.

Outlook: Expect more speculation about a second-generation Trump run as attacks on the family continue.
