The Taoyuan mayoral race has opened with a fight over where TSMC's supply chain will settle — negative news for incumbent mayor Chang San-cheng.

• TSMC is set to move into the third phase of the Longtan Science Park, and Chang San-cheng said its upstream and downstream supply chain could settle in the second expansion phase of Yangmei's Youth Industrial Park.
• DPP candidate Huang Shih-chieh hit back, saying the project was one he pushed while serving as a legislator and that the application was filed at the end of 2022, and it is now being taken as a political achievement.
• Huang Shih-chieh said that in three and a half years in office Chang San-cheng has convened only two project task force meetings, and that the urban plan has effectively been stalled for nearly four years.
• Existing problems at the Youth Industrial Park — narrow roads, poor traffic flow, and the lack of an independent wastewater treatment plant — have gone unresolved, limiting manufacturers' operations.
• Financial influencer Emmy Hu also joined in the criticism, saying Chang San-cheng first drove TSMC out of Taoyuan and only now, ahead of the election, is scrambling to get the company back.

Outlook: The TSMC supply chain and industrial park development will become the main line of attack and defence in the Taoyuan mayoral race, with both sides continuing to press the question of who is responsible.
