Scams cost people in Yilan County more than NT$1.3 billion last year, with young adults hit hardest — bad news for anyone shopping or job-hunting online.

• Fake online shopping listings were the most common scam, topping 500 cases and about 17% of the total.
• People in their twenties were the biggest group of victims, followed by people in their thirties.
• Fake investment offers and fake romance rounded out the top three, with instalment-payment scams still common.
• Sex-work and escort scams broke into the top five for the first time.
• Total cases and losses both fell from the year before, when losses ran above NT$1.7 billion.

Outlook: Police are pushing anti-fraud campaigns on Facebook, Instagram and Threads and running workshops with schools and youth job centres, with fake online auctions the main target.
