KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan drew nearly a thousand local residents and more than thirty borough chiefs to a public rally in Xizhi — good news for supporters of local transport infrastructure.

• Li pledged that, if elected, he would speed up the linkage between the Xizhi–Donghu line and the East Ring section of the Circular Line, easing the traffic chokepoints on routes from Xizhi and Xike into central Taipei.
• He said he would work closely with Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an to connect the metro networks of Xizhi, Neihu, Xinyi and Wenshan.
• The goal is to create a 30-minute living circle across Taipei and New Taipei, extending the high-tech industrial chains of Beitou–Shilin Technology Park, Neihu and Nangang into Xizhi.
• Chen You-liang, chairman of the Xizhi Borough Chiefs' Association, will serve as head of the "Friends of Li" association, stressing the need to continue the municipal construction projects begun under Hou You-yi.

Outlook: Transport and rail infrastructure in Xizhi is expected to become a major point of contention in the New Taipei mayoral race.
