Taxi driver caused three-car pileup on Highway 3 in Nantou

Aug 23, 2026

A taxi driver who cut across lanes to force another car aside triggered a three-car crash on a Taiwanese highway, and now faces criminal charges.

  • The taxi and a MINI had an earlier dispute over overtaking on the southbound stretch of National Highway 3 in Nantou's Caotun area.
  • The taxi driver swerved from the inside lane to the outside lane at speed to force the MINI to give way, but hit it instead.
  • The MINI was flung into the inside lane, and the taxi bounced off it into a third car in the middle lane.
  • Both the MINI driver and the taxi driver were slightly hurt; the taxi's front end was half destroyed.
  • Police fined the taxi driver, and referred him for prosecution on public endangerment.

Outlook: The driver faces a fine, a six-month plate suspension, and possible loss of his licence on top of the criminal case.
