Taiwan's unemployment ticked up in July as new graduates started looking for work, but the rate is still the lowest for that month in 26 years — a sign the job market remains solid.

• The jobless rate rose slightly for the second month in a row, driven by fresh graduates entering the workforce.
• Adjusted for the usual seasonal swings, unemployment was flat, so nothing has really deteriorated.
• The number of people with jobs kept growing, both from the month before and from a year ago.
• Young people aged 15 to 24 have by far the highest jobless rate at nearly 12%, as most are hunting for their first job.
• Underemployment barely moved, with a small rise in people working fewer hours than they want.

Outlook: Unemployment is expected to edge up again in August as the graduate job hunt continues, then fall back in September.
