Taiwan and Japan are talking up closer economic ties, a positive sign for both sides' trade and chip industries.

• A cross-party Taiwanese legislative delegation, led by Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang, arrived in Tokyo for a regional parliamentary conference.
• Their first stop was lunch with Japan's pro-Taiwan lawmakers group, now renamed the Japan-Taiwan Friendship Parliamentary Alliance after more than 50 years under its old name.
• Group head Keiji Furuya called the relationship a win-win, pointing to Japan's bullet train tech in Taiwan and TSMC's chip plant in Kumamoto.
• Trade and tourism between the two are at record highs, and Taiwan's parliament has hosted close to 20 Japanese lawmaker delegations this session.
• Furuya thanked Taiwan for its quick donations and aid after the recent Kumamoto earthquake.

Outlook: Both sides say they want to deepen industrial cooperation, with more lawmaker exchanges and chip investment likely to follow.
