Days of heavy rain have filled southern Taiwan's biggest reservoirs, which is good news for water supply but has already flooded parts of Tainan.

• Zengwen Reservoir went from 80% full to completely full in two days and will start a controlled release at 6pm, timed for a lull in the rain to limit damage downstream.
• Wushantou Reservoir also filled up, and Nanhua Reservoir is close behind, so the three reservoirs soaked up a huge amount of rainfall in just a few days.
• Flooding hit hardest around the Sanyeh drainage area, where one district got extreme rainfall and 23 more got heavy rain, made worse because it coincided with the highest tides.
• Central government sent extra mobile pumps to join Tainan's own fleet, and crews have pumped out water equal to a full reservoir's worth.
• Tainan is asking Taipei for around NT$1.8 billion to rebuild drainage systems and raise flood protection standards.

Outlook: Water releases will be adjusted based on upstream rain, and floodgates could still be opened if more rain comes.
