After days of heavy rain, a single-vehicle crash caused by falling rocks on Taoyuan's Northern Cross-Island Highway serves as a clear warning to those travelling in mountain areas.

• An SUV carrying five people swerved to avoid rocks in the road just before the Xuewunao Tunnel on Provincial Highway 7; its right front tyre blew out and the vehicle went out of control and struck the cliff face.
• Three adults in the vehicle were injured and taken to hospital, with injuries including a bleeding head wound and contusions to an ankle and the chest; two children were unharmed because they were wearing seat belts.
• Police closed part of the road, cleared the fallen rocks and switched the section to one-way traffic, and notified public works authorities to deal with the larger boulders.
• Several other rockfalls and landslides occurred in Fuxing District the same day, with one road proving difficult to reopen and a high-voltage utility pole toppled and awaiting attention from Taipower.
• Those involved questioned whether mountain roads are subject to regular inspection and whether warning and protective measures are adequate.
