A rockfall-related crash occurred in the early hours of the morning on Provincial Highway 7 in Taoyuan's Fuxing District, leaving three people injured and taken to hospital — bad news for road users in the mountain areas.

• A passenger car struck rocks that had fallen onto the road along the Xuewunao section; its right front tyre blew out and the vehicle went out of control and hit the mountainside.
• Three of the five people in the car were injured, including one foreign woman. All were conscious and were taken to the Armed Forces hospital.
• The accident is believed to have been caused by the darkness in the early morning hours, leaving the driver unable to avoid the fallen rocks in time. A breath test on the driver showed no alcohol.
• Police and firefighters cleared the rocks at the scene and imposed one-way traffic control along roughly 60 metres of road, with two-way traffic restored early on the morning of the 23rd.
• Fuxing District has seen days of heavy rain, with scattered rockfalls appearing on both farm roads and the access roads linking Indigenous communities to the outside.

Outlook: The risk of rockfalls in mountain areas remains high for as long as the rain continues, and drivers should slow down at night and after rainfall.
