Heavy rain has battered southern Taiwan for days, and Kaohsiung's Moon World area is now at risk of landslides and falling rocks — bad news for residents and drivers, with more rain still coming.

• Kaohsiung has taken more than 500mm of rain, an extreme downpour, with another 250mm possible by midday.
• Economics Ministry deputy head Lai Chien-hsin toured the damage with Mayor Chen Chi-mai and local lawmakers to plan fixes.
• Moon World's soft mudstone soaks up water and crumbles, loosening rocks and blocking roads.
• Road and city crews have been told to clear and shore up damaged spots fast before the next rain hits.
• People are being warned to stay out of the mountains and drive slowly where roads are still open.
