Matsu–China ferry route resumes after two-day suspension

Aug 24, 2026

Ferry service between Matsu and China restarts Tuesday, good news for more than 500 travelers stranded on both sides.

  • The Matsu-to-Fuzhou and Huangqi routes were halted for two days after China's Fuzhou maritime authority imposed controls.
  • Over 500 people were left stuck in China and Matsu, so the county government secured extra sailings to clear the backlog.
  • Regular boats plus an added service will run from Beigan and Nangan, and inter-island traffic around Matsu returns to normal.
  • The operator defended the shutdown, saying forecast waves of up to 2.7 meters hit the red-alert level that forces a halt.

Outlook: The Taiwan–Matsu ferry link stays uncertain, with Tuesday evening's sailing depending on sea conditions.
