The Taiwan People's Party's potential candidate for the Taipei mayoral race is coming into view, putting pressure on the TPP and giving incumbent mayor Chiang Wan-an one more possible rival.

• Former minister without portfolio Chang Ching-sen suggested the TPP nominate Huang Shan-shan to run for Taipei mayor, or even have Ko Wen-je himself run again.
• Huang Shan-shan responded that her next step after leaving public office "is my own business," and that she owes no one an explanation.
• Ko Wen-je's complaint that the DPP's candidate Puma Shen is too weak is in fact a sign of his frustration that the KMT is ignoring the TPP entirely.
• The KMT is unwilling to campaign alongside the TPP and plans to allocate votes in a bid to win an outright majority in the city council on its own — effectively seeking to swallow up the TPP.
• Huang Shan-shan said that over the past six months she has taken up exercise, hiking and learning new things, and has for the first time experienced not having to rush to give an answer.

Outlook: With a few months to go before the local elections, whether Huang Shan-shan is nominated will determine whether the KMT and the TPP cooperate or face off in Taipei.
