Xindian Car Crash: SUV Veers into Oncoming Lane and Hits Sedan Waiting at Red Light

A traffic accident occurred in Xindian District, New Taipei City, when an SUV drifted into the oncoming lane, struck a sedan stopped at a red light and then overturned. The driver sustained minor injuries.

  • A 48-year-old female driver surnamed Chen was travelling along Zhongzheng Road in Xindian in the afternoon when her vehicle suddenly veered to the left and crossed into the oncoming lane.
  • The SUV hit a sedan driven by a 42-year-old man surnamed Li, who was waiting at a red light, and then overturned.
  • Chen suffered abrasions and contusions to both hands and her neck but remained conscious, and was taken to hospital for treatment; Li was not reported to have been injured.
  • Both drivers registered zero on breath alcohol tests and showed no signs of drug-impaired driving; the crash is suspected to have been caused by a lapse in attention.
