A woman fell from the third floor to the ground floor of the Breeze Nan Shan mall in Taipei's Xinyi District, and padding on the floor below likely saved her life.

• Emergency crews were called to the Songzhi Road mall in the middle of the afternoon.
• The woman broke her right hand and both knees, but stayed conscious and was taken to hospital.
• Cushioned matting laid out by a store broke her fall and prevented worse injuries.
• Why she fell is not yet known.

Outlook: Police are still investigating the cause.
