The Chiayi City mayoral race is heating up, with Democratic Progressive Party candidate Wang Mei-hui making central government funding her central theme — a positive message for local infrastructure and voters.

• Wang Mei-hui listed the construction funding she secured during her time as a legislator, including the main library, flood control and drainage works, social housing, and a programme to extend the life of ageing homes.
• Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang and Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai appeared at the event in support, stressing that central government subsidies are allocated regardless of party affiliation.
• Chen Shih-kai pointed to projects such as the elevation of the Chiayi railway line that have been completed or are under construction, rebutting claims that the promises were empty cheques.
• Wang Mei-hui pledged that if elected she would be a mayor who serves all residents without regard to party lines, and mentioned another NT$10,000 universal cash handout next year.

Outlook: Central government ministries continue to raise the temperature of the Chiayi City race, and resources and policy record will be the campaign's main axis.
