Three classic Dori 800 cars turned a mountain road in Yilan into a race track, sideswiping an oncoming BMW
A group drive of 40-year-old classic minicars on a winding mountain highway in Yilan ended in a crash, and police are now going after the drivers.
- Three Dori 800s, a Taiwanese classic small car built more than 40 years ago, were speeding through curves on the Central Cross-Island Highway's Yilan branch.
- The lead car lost the back end in a turn, slid across the double yellow line and clipped a white BMW coming the other way.
- The second car also cut across the line, and the third came straight at the BMW, which had to stop and lean on the horn to avoid a second hit.
- Police in Sanxing have pulled the traffic camera footage and will call the drivers in and issue tickets.
- Onlookers said a few centimeters more and the crash could have been fatal.
Outlook: The drivers face fines for crossing the center line and dangerous driving, and police are likely to step up patrols on this popular mountain route.
