Taoyuan's city government is tearing down aging offices and a public market in Luzhu to build a mixed-use complex, good news for locals who get housing, childcare and elder services in one place, though the payoff is years away.

• The old Luzhu district office and Nankan public market are being demolished and rebuilt at a cost of NT$3.77 billion.
• The new site will combine government offices, a market, elder care, public childcare and social housing in two towers of 13 and 9 floors.
