A Vietnamese man who had overstayed his work permit in Taiwan rammed a police car and fled on foot late at night in Taichung, and tested positive for methamphetamine.

• Police in Taichung's Wufeng district tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation, but the driver sped off.
• The chase ran through red lights and down the wrong side of the road before the driver crashed into the patrol car and ran.
• Officers caught him outside a fire station and broke a window to pull out his passenger, another Vietnamese man.
• The driver, 29, had let his residence permit expire last December and failed a roadside drug test.
• Both men were handed to prosecutors, the driver for drug-driving and obstructing police, the passenger for obstructing police.
