Su Chiao-hui Launches Chiayi Hometown Support Association; Weng Chang-liang and Tsai Yi-yu Attend
The race for New Taipei City mayor is heating up, with the DPP's Su Chiao-hui and the KMT's Li Si-chuan campaigning separately for votes, both working to shore up their local networks.
- Su Chiao-hui launched a Chiayi hometown support association, with Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang and county magistrate candidate Tsai Yi-yu appearing on stage in support.
- She also floated ideas for cooperation between New Taipei and Chiayi, including marketing Chiayi's agricultural produce and promoting nationwide study tours.
- Her platform focuses on tourism and industry, including the New Crown Coast and Diamond Mountain City projects, along with additional investment in the Xindian Baogao Park and the Tamhai Science City.
- Former President Tsai Ing-wen will serve as chair of her campaign headquarters, and both Lai Ching-te and Tsai Ing-wen will attend the headquarters' opening on September 5.
- Li Si-chuan, meanwhile, canvassed the Banqiao market and attended a general assembly of Hakka associations, putting forward six Hakka policy proposals including higher subsidies for Hakka associations and better pay for Hakka-language teachers.
Outlook: With both campaign headquarters opening in early September, campaign mobilisation and clashes over policy platforms are set to intensify markedly.
