Cracks have appeared in the KMT-TPP cooperation in the Taipei mayoral race — bad news for the Taiwan People's Party candidate, and for now an advantage for the KMT's Chiang Wan-an.

• Ko Wen-je attributed his failure to get TPP councillors to appear on stage with Chiang Wan-an to the DPP's candidate, Shen Po-yang, being "too weak," which leaves Chiang under no pressure.
• Shen Po-yang countered that Ko Wen-je was also written off when he first ran for Taipei mayor, and won anyway.
• TPP grassroots members are unhappy at being limited to joint campaign rallies, describing it as being given "handouts."
• Shen Po-yang said he will work the grassroots hard, and stressed that scrutinising city governance is simply what should be done, and that good policies — such as food safety tracking and traffic data — should be carried forward.

Outlook: Ahead of the year-end local elections, the terms of KMT-TPP cooperation and the relative momentum of their respective candidates will continue to be contested back and forth.
