Sanchong Policy Briefing: Lee Szu-chuan Reaffirms Vision of Joint Taipei–New Taipei Governance
KMT New Taipei City mayoral candidate Lee Szu-chuan served up policy "beef" on metro lines and Taipei–New Taipei cooperation in Sanchong, offering clear benefits to Sanchong residents and young voters.
- Lee proposed a "Dahan River MRT Trunk Line" that would link Dadaocheng with Sanchong, Xinzhuang and Shulin, with the goal of creating a 30-minute living circle across Taipei and New Taipei.
- He said he would use the rail network to string together an "AI technology industry corridor" spanning the two cities, attracting tech firms and creating jobs for young people in New Taipei.
- The senior citizens' card would also be upgraded: of its 600 points, 300 would function like an EasyCard, allowing seniors to spend at convenience stores, supermarkets and pharmacies, and to offset medical costs.
- He reaffirmed his commitment to joint governance of Taipei and New Taipei, including plans to co-host the Dadaocheng fireworks with Taipei City so that both banks of the Tamsui River are lit up together.
- More than 600 people packed the briefing, with several young city council candidates and local borough chiefs appearing in support, a show of momentum as he seeks to succeed Hou Yu-ih.
Outlook: Sanchong's transport infrastructure and Taipei–New Taipei cooperation are set to become the main lines of attack and defence in the New Taipei mayoral race, with further policy pledges likely before election day.
