Penghu Coast Guard Soldier Pulls Gun in Road Dispute, Sentenced to Four Months and Facing Dismissal
A Taiwanese coast guard soldier in Penghu pulled a gun during a road dispute and picked the worst possible person to threaten — a prosecutor — and now faces losing his job.
- A coast guard corporal waved a handgun out a car window at a neighbouring vehicle during a traffic spat.
- The driver he threatened was a prosecutor from the Penghu district prosecutors' office, who called police on the spot.
- Police stopped the car in Magong and seized three gas-powered airguns, a gas canister and BB pellets.
- The court gave him four months for public intimidation, convertible to a fine, based on dashcam footage showing the window going down as he raised the gun.
Outlook: He avoids prison but is expected to be dismissed from the service in October, ending his government career.
